Rui Costa suspended for a month

Rui Costa has been suspended for a month by the Disciplinary Commitee for his actions from a few weeks ago and then repeating them again this past weekend. Rui Costa was also fined for entering/remaining in the area of the field between the fences and the lines outside the field without authorization in simpler terms Costa was in the tunnel area of the officials. Rui Costa could have faced up to a year suspension for these actions

FC Porto and Benfica chug along

FC Porto and Benfica continue their winning ways and nothing will change this week at the top of the Superliga as far as the Top 3 Standings go. FC Porto defeated Setubal on two goals by Lisandro Lopez while Benfica jumped to a 3-0 lead on goals by David Luiz and a pair from Oscar Cardozo before Maritimo made a game of it but still falling to the eagles 3-2.

Sporting win again, against Amadora

Sporting continue their winning ways today against Amadora at Avalade Stadium. Helder Postiga scored early for Sporting before Goianira tied the game just before the half. Liedson then gave Sporting the lead for good and the three points in the Lions 2-1 victory.

FC Porto and Pacos Ferreira to clash in Taca De Portugal Final


FC Porto survived a surprising Amadora at home, after Farias gave the hosts a 1-0 lead early. Amadora struck back with goals by R. Varela and Anselmo before the end of the first half but were unable to add one more goal to go through to the Final. Amadora won the game 2-1 but lost on the aggregate 3-2. While Pacos Ferreira went down to Madeira after a 2-2 tie at home and defeated Nacional 3-2 to win 5-4 on aggregate. P. Ferreira took an early 2-0 lead on goals by R. Pedrinha and Miguel before Nacional stormed back to tie it on goals by Alberto and Mateus but a penalty kick in the 90th minute converted by R. Pedrinha put the visitors through. FC Porto and P. Ferreira will clash for the Taca De Portugal May 31/09.

FC Porto and Benfica cruise to victories

FC Porto and Benfica cruised to easy wins today in Superliga action. FC Porto defeated Academica 3-0 on goals from Rolando, Lisandro and Mariano Gonzalvez while Benfica crushed Setubal 4-0 with Cardozo and Nuno Gomes chipping in a pair each. FC Porto remain in top stop four points ahead of Sporting while Benfica sit third trailing FC Porto by eight points and Sporting by four.

Sporting pull off late heroics in win over Guimaraes

Sporting pull off late heroics in their victory of Guimaraes. Sporting scored two goals, one from Derlei and one from Leidson in the finals nine minutes to come from behind and defeat Guimaraes 2-1. The win increases the heat on league leaders Porto who now sit one point ahead of Sporting with a game in hand.

Lucho Gonzalvez has operation

Porto's Lucho Gonzalvez who left the 2nd leg of the Champions League Quarter-Final matchup with an injury has had surgery on his left knee, it was though at first that Lucho had suffered a left knee sprain.
Porto is unsure how long Lucho will be out as they continue their campaign in the Superliga

Ronaldo sends Porto packing

Cristiano Ronaldo walked into the Dragao Stadium and six minutes into the 2nd leg of the Champions League Quarter-Final match sent a screamer into the top corner just out of the reach of Helton to give Man U a 1-0 lead and it was all the Red Devils needed to advance into the Semi-Final stage of the tournament to take on English side Arsenal. Porto tried for the rest of the game to get the equalizer but to no avail and their Champions League run has come to an end

Braga and Maritimo open Week 24 with a draw

Braga and Maritimo opened up Week 24 with a draw in the Liga Sagres. It was a Good Friday for both teams as the eached picked up a point in a 1-1 affair with both goals coming from the penalty kick spot. Luis Aguiar scored first for Braga before Bruno brought the game back to a deadlock. Braga currently sit in 4th spot with Maritimo occupying the 6th spot.

Benfica & Sporting win to keep pace with Porto

Benfica and Sporting pull out narrow victories today to keep pace with league leader FC Porto. Benfica pulled out a 2-1 victory over Amadora as Oscar Cardozo scored both goals on penalty kicks while Amadora's Varela also scored on a penalty kick. Sporting got an early goal from Derlei and hung on to defeat the free falling Leixoes 1-0. Sporting and Benfica sit 2nd and 3rd respectively trailing FC Porto by four and five points.

Academica open Week 23 with a win

Academica opened Week 23 with a win over Belenenses 1-0 on a goal by Nuno Piloto and moved further out of the relegation zone, while Belenenses season continued its miserable slide as they currently sit tied for last in the Superliga.
