FC Porto wins Taca De Portugal

FC Porto wrapped up the Portuguese season with another trophy as they take the Taca De Portugal with a 1-0 victory over Pacos Ferreira. Lisandro Lopez opened the scoring early on Porto's first shot of the match and the Dragons held on the rest of the way. FC Porto finish with a double this season winning the Superliga Title and Taca De Portugal.
Pacos Ferreira earns a berth in the UEFA Cup next season as Porto will be in the Group Stage of the Champions League.

Portugal announce roster for World Cup Qualifier and Friendly


Portugal announced the roster for the upcoming World Cup Qualifier against Albania and the Friendly against Estonia.

Goalkeepers- Eduardo (Braga), Moreira (Benfica), Beto (Leixoes), Daniel Fernandes (VFL Bochum)

Defenders- Bosingwa (Chelsea), Bruno Alves (FC Porto), G. Brandao (Siena), Miguel (Valencia), Jose Castro (Deportivo), Pepe (Real Madrid), Rolando (FC Porto), Carvalho (Chelsea)

Midfielders- Deco (Chelsea), Duda (Malaga), Joao Moutinho (Sporting), Tiago (Juventus), Eliseu (Malaga), Raul Meireles (FC Porto)

Nene wins Portuguese Golden Boot

Nacional's Nene has claimed the Golden Boot in Portugal this season, holding off late season runs for the boot by Sporting's Leidson and Benfica's Oscar Cardozo. Nene scored 20 goals in the Superliga campaign which accounted for over 40% of Nacional's season total. Leidson and Cardozo finished tied for second spot with 17 a piece

Leiria & Olhanense move up while Belenenses, Trofense head down

Uniao de Leiria makes their return to the Superliga after a 1 year absence and will be joined by Liga De Honra winner Olhanense. Leiria defeated Beira Mar 3-2 and coupled with a loss by Santa Clara are back in the portuguese top flight. The story on the other side is not as happy as Belenenses and Trofense drop down to the Liga De Honra for next season

Benfica finish off the season with a win


Benfica finished off the 2008-09 season with a victory over Belenenses. Benfica fell behind 1-0 early on a goal by Silas before Cardozo, Felipe Bastos and Mantorras replied to give Benfica a 3-1 victory. Benfica finish the season in third place and miss out on a Champions League spot. Benfica did win this seasons Carlsberg Cup, their only trophy of the campaign. The winds of change may be blowing this off season as Benfica look to claim back some glory, only time will tell.

Maicon dreams of FC Porto


Nacional defender Maicon has FC Porto in his sights. Maicon does not know if FC Porto has any interest in the central defender but with Bruno Alves possibly on the move this summer anything is possible, for now Maicon will continue to focus on playing for Nacional

FC Porto win again as season winds down

FC Porto wins again as the season winds down with a 4-1 victory over Trofense in Week 29 action Lisandro Lopez and Farias each scored a pair for Porto while Hugo Leal replied late for Trofense to spoil the cleansheet. Sporting also won 2-1 over Maritimo in Madeira as Leidson scored a pair and now trails Nacional's Nene by two goals for the Superliga Golden Boot

FC Porto claim 4th straight Portuguese Title

FC Porto have claimed their fourth straight Portuguese Title today with a victory over Nacional 1-0 on a goal by Bruno Alves. FC Porto has wrapped up the title with two games remaining in the season. FC Porto and Sporting have finished one, two in the standings for the last four years also. FC Porto now has a Group Stage spot in next seasons Champions League while Sporting will go into the 3rd Round Qualifying stage of the Champions League.

Benfica lose chance for second


Benfica lose the chance for second spot and a Champions League berth with a 2-2 against minnows Trofense. Cardozo scored a pair for Benfica while Valdimoro and Paulinho replied for Trofense. Trofense was undeafeated against the Eagles this season a great accomplishment for the small club

Jorge Andrade looks to make Portugal return

Jorge Andrade would love a return to his homeland of Portugal next season, after being released earlier this season by Juventus, this defender is free to join any club that he would like. Andrade is recovering from a knee injury and is hoping to be close to 100% health when the soccer preseason gets under way in August

FC Porto inch closer to Portuguese Title

FC Porto are inching closer to the Portuguese title after another victory today over Maritimo 3-0. Raul Meireles, Rolando and T.Costa scored for Porto today. FC Porto now sit six points clear of Sporting with three games remaining in the portuguese season and have at least clinched a spot in next season seasons Champions League play

Nacional thump Benfica in Madeira

Nacional entrenched themselves in 4th place up three points on Braga with a commanding 3-1 victory over Benfica all but ending Benfica's title hopes. Nacional and Benfica entered the half scoreless. Nene and Ruben then gave Nacional a 2-0 lead in the second half. Jose A Reyes cut that lead in half before M. Fidalgo restored the two goal lead and final score of 3-1.

Braga start off Week 27 with a draw

Braga kicked off the start of Week 27 in the Superliga with a draw on the road to Rio Ave. Braga are battling Nacional for a UEFA Cup spot and currently are tied with for 4th spot with 46 points but now have a game in hand on Nacional.
