Benfica struggles in the Portuguese League continue after falling to Guimaraes on the road. Benfica has now lost three out of the first four games of the season, eclipsing last seasons total of two already after four games.Guimaraes opened the scoring at home when Edgar's tap went over a sprawling Roberto to give Guimaraes a 1-0 seventeen minutes into the game. Benfica brought the game back to even fourteen minutes later when a corner kick was misplayed by Nilson and Saviola made Guimaraes pay and the game went into the half even.
The second half saw the game get a bit chippy as their were eight yellow cards give between both clubs but what really mattered on this night happened at the 83rd minute mark and this saw Rui Miguel head home a cross to give Guimaraes the lead 2-1 and the victory by the same score.
Benfica now look to regroup as they get set to host Hapoel Tel-Aviv on Tuesday and the team will have a short stay in the Champions League if it continues it poor start to the season.
