Benfica in talks with Man City for Robinho


Benfica are reported to be in talks with Manchester City for Brazilian striker Robinho according to the English paper the Telegraph. Benfica and City are said to be discussing a season long loan for the talented striker as he does not seem to fit into City's plans for the season.

Sporting & Maritimo both win in Europa League

Portuguese clubs continued their winning ways in Europe as both Sporting and Maritimo obtained wins in their first leg match ups of the Europa League in the 3rd Qualifying round. Sporting defeated Danish club FC Nordsjaelland when Vukcevic scored at the 24th minute to give them a mere 1-0 road win. Maritimo on the other hand, handed Bangor City a thumping in Madeira pretty much assuring themselves of a move to the next round with a remarkable 8-2 win. Baba, Danilo and Tcho each scored a pair while Kanu and Fidelis added singles. The clubs will play the second leg next week.

Braga take big step towards Group Stage

Braga have taken a big step in moving closer to the Champions League Group Stage after a crushing defeat over Scottish side Celtic. Braga opened the scoring in the 26th minute when Alan converted a penalty kick after a Celtic's Ki Sung-Yung committed a hand ball fault in the box. Braga then made it 2-0 in the second half as Elderson got his leg on a corner kick past the Celtic keeper, Matheus pushed the Braga total to three at the 87th minute mark when his free kick from 35 yards out got past Zaluska. Braga now travel to Scotland next week with a big goal differential lead and look posed to move onto to the playoff stage in which this round of winners will earn a spot in the lucrative Champions League Group Stage.

Supertaca tickets for Benfica-FC Porto going on sale

Benfica and FC Porto will play in Aveiro on August 7th for the Portuguese Supertaca as last seasons League Champions take on last seasons Portuguese Cup winners to kick off the start of the league season. Ticket prices will vary from $10 to $25 Euros and will be open to members in phases from July 28th and July 31st, tickets on sale to the general public have a yet to be determined date.

Tonel can now play as UEFA reduce suspension

Sporting defender Tonel had his UEFA suspension reduced to one game after previously be handed a three match ban due to a red card picked up in the first leg against Atletico Madrid last season. Tonel sat out the second leg and after Sporting's appeal the suspension is now time served. Tonel will now dress for Sporting as it takes on FC Nordsjaelland from Denmark in the third qualifying round of the Europa League.

Walter already in Porto for physical

Brazilian U20 striker Walter has arrived in Porto from Internacional and is undergoing physicals after having 50% of his rights acquired by the Dragons for $3.5 million euros. Walter has scored five goals in nine appearances for Brazil's U20 squad.

Maritimo win first leg in Europa League


Maritimo have won their first leg in the Europa League over Irish club Sporting Fingal 3-2. Fingal opened the scoring at the 33rd minute mark when Glen Crowe headed in a cross. Maritimo fans had to wait until the 78th minute mark to see the home side bring the game to even as a weak Ricardo Esteves header was not stopped by keeper Brendan Clarke. Then Maritimo took the lead seven minutes later when Cherrad tapped in a loose ball but feisty Fingal brought the game back even just two minutes later as Fitzgerald capitilized on a Maritimo defensive error and beat Pecanha with a chapeu. Maritmo needed an extra time marker from Tcho as he slid to get the shot away and give the home side the victory. Maritimo will now travel to Ireland next week and hope to hold the advantage so they can move onto the third qualifying round.

PSNL's World Cup Team of the Tournament


The World Cup is done and for most fans it was a roller coaster of emotions with many surprises along on the way. Portuguese fans of course were disappointed with the National sides early exit in the Round of 16 but unforunately only one team can win this tournament. Yannick Djalo getting closer to move to England

Sporting's striker Yannick Djalo is inching closer to a move to England as both Tottenham and Newcastle have made offers for the 24 year old. Everton and Fulham are also said to be interested in the player, Sporting are said to be asking for anywhere in the range of $7 to $8 million for their current player.

Genoa pay $4.5M for Braga's Eduardo

Portugal National Team and Braga number one keeper Eduardo has been sold to Italian club Genoa for a reported $4.5 million euros, a record transfer for the northern club. Braga and Genoa Presidents negotiated well into the early morning to come to the deal. Braga have already picked up Brazilian keeper Marcos to replace their former number one.

Miguel Vitor loaned to Leicester for the season

Benfica have decided to loan central defender Miguel Vitor to Leicester of the English second division for the season. Leicester announced earlier today that Paulo Sousa would be its head coach for the season and within hours, Vitor was loaned out. Vitor who has not been able to crack the Benfica lineup should benefit from getting full time duty in England

Cristiano Ronaldo has announced through his twitter and facebook pages, that it is with great joy he has become a father to a baby boy. Ronaldo did not say who he had the child with as the baby's mother has decided at this time to remain anonymous. Ronaldo will have exclusive guardianship of the child.

Porto show interest in Nigerian keeper

FC Porto have made an offer for Nigerian keeper Vincent Enyeama after a strong performance in the World Cup. The 27 year old keeper who has played the past three seasons in Isreal for Hapoel Tel-Aviv FC is on the Dragons radar. The reports are that Porto have offered one million euros for the players rights
