Braga get back on track with win over Naval

Braga get back on track before their next round of Champions League games defeating Naval at home after losing ugly to Arsenal and drawing their last league game in Week 5.

Braga opened the scoring when Mossoro converted a second rebound past the Naval keeper. Braga then got a gift in the second half when some confusion saw Orestas kick the ball into his own net. Braga then made it 3-0 in the 81st minute when Paulo Cesar was sent in alone and he made no mistake. Naval did break the shut out in the 90th minute as Junior sent a kick out of the reach of Felipe but that was all that it would be as Braga defeat Naval 3-1 and move into a tie for second spot in the league with the win.

Taking a look at Paulo Bento managerial career

Portugal have named Paulo Bento the new National side head coach as the former Sporting head man takes the helms and looks to direct the squad to Euro 2012 after a dismal start. Paulo Bento is rumoured to be signed to a contract that will pay him $720,000 Euros per year.

We take a look at the former Portugal player's (35 Caps) managerial career. Bento started his coaching career managing Sporting's youth team and moved up to the main squad midway through the 2005-06 season. Bento went on to guide Sporting to a second place finish that season. Bento never did win a Portuguese League title but did manage to finish runner up four consecutive times before he resigned in November 2009.

Paulo Bento lead Sporting to two Taca de Portugal titles and two Super Cup titles earning the nickname "Papa-Tacas" from the Lions supporters. Bento also lead Sporting out of the Group stage of the Champions League for the first time ever in 2008-09.

Paulo Bento finished his coaching career with Sporting having managed 190 games with 117 wins, 44 draws and 32 losses for a 60.62% winning percentage. The 41 year old has a nation to satisfy now and many Portuguese fans around the globe. Good Luck Mr. Bento the world is now watching.

FC Porto remain atop leaderboard after win

FC Porto continued their perfect run in the Portuguese League after earning a 2-0 victory in Madeira over Nacional. The win was the Dragons fifth in a row and they remain atop the league with 15 points, four points ahead of Guimaraes.

Porto opened the scoring in the first half when their free kick was headed into the net by Nacional's Joao Aurellio for the own goal at the 20 minute mark. Falcao then tried his luck with a penalty kick but had the spot kick hit of the post and out. The second half saw Varela then doubled Porto's lead after Hulk stole the ball and feed it across the box to an oncoming Varela.

Olhanense get better of Portimonense

Olhanense and Portimonense battled for bragging rights in the Algarve, with Olhanense coming out on top in this encounter.

Olhanense opened the scoring 17 minutes into the game when Paulo Sergio converted a cross into the far left corner. Olhanense then doubled their score in the second half when Paulo Sergio was taken down inside the box and Djalmir converted the penalty at the 57th minute mark, thats all that was needed as Olhanense defeated Portimonense 2-0.

Benfica get it right in Champions League

Benfica finally did something right this season and it could not have come in at a better time as the club gets a big home victory to kick off their Group Stage in Champions League action.

Benfica coach Jorge Jesus said his club would be ready for the encounter against Isreal club Hapoel Tel-Aviv and the Eagles opened the scoring in the first half when when Luisao let one rip from the top of the penalty box on a Carlos Martins cross which he sent into the top right corner of the net in one motion and Benfica were up 1-0 at the 21st minute.

The second half saw Benfica add to their lead when striker Oscar Cardozo tapped in a Maxi Pereira rebound at the 68th minute mark with Maxi and Ruben Amorim playing a beautiful give and go just before the marker. Benfica could have gone up 3-0 but Ruben Amorim's shot was well shaved by the Hapoel keeper.

Guimaraes add to Benfica struggles

Benfica struggles in the Portuguese League continue after falling to Guimaraes on the road. Benfica has now lost three out of the first four games of the season, eclipsing last seasons total of two already after four games.

Guimaraes opened the scoring at home when Edgar's tap went over a sprawling Roberto to give Guimaraes a 1-0 seventeen minutes into the game. Benfica brought the game back to even fourteen minutes later when a corner kick was misplayed by Nilson and Saviola made Guimaraes pay and the game went into the half even.

The second half saw the game get a bit chippy as their were eight yellow cards give between both clubs but what really mattered on this night happened at the 83rd minute mark and this saw Rui Miguel head home a cross to give Guimaraes the lead 2-1 and the victory by the same score.

Benfica now look to regroup as they get set to host Hapoel Tel-Aviv on Tuesday and the team will have a short stay in the Champions League if it continues it poor start to the season.
