FC Porto stretch lead atop league

FC Porto continued their undefeated season atop the Portuguese league with a 2-0 victory over Uniao de Leiria in Week 23 action. The win gives Porto a thirteen point lead over second place Benfica with seven games remaining on the season.

Porto opened the scoring in the second half when Guarin scored at the 59th minute to give the league leaders the lead, Hulk then converted a penalty kick in extra time to cement the victory for the Dragons.

Nani out at least four weeks with injury

Portuguese International and Manchester United winger Nani looks to be out for at least four weeks with a nasty leg injury suffered during Manchester's recent game against Liverpool when Jaime Carragher's high tackle cut open Nani's leg so deep it exposed his shinbone.

Man U medics are a bit worried as there is a possibility of infection and any complications in his healing could see Nani miss the rest of the season for United which would be a devasting blow to the English League leaders

Benfica lose three for game against Portimonense

Benfica not only lost their 18 game win streak with the loss to Braga yesterday they also lost three players for their upcoming encounter against Portimonense in Week 23 of the Portuguese League.

Benfica will be without the services of Javi Garcia who picked up a red card in the game against Braga as well as Maxi Pereira and Luisao due to yellow cards. Benfica also have Salvio and Gaitan not fully fit at this stage for the encounter.

Benfica win again to reach third straight League Cup Final

Benfica have won again their 17th straight win in all competitions after defeating cross towm rivals Sporting in the semi-finals of the Portuguese League Cup 2-1 today.
Benfica are heading to their third straight final as the two time defending champs look to capture their third title in the competitions fourth year.

Sporting opened the scoring on this day when Helder Postiga's directed in a Fernandez cross in the 21st minute but the Eagles were quick to reply as Oscar Cardozo headed in a Carlos Martins corner just twelve minutes later. Benfica then required extra time in the second half as Javi Garcia got to a loose ball and chipped it into the net.

Benfica will now await the winner of tomorrows semi-final as Nacional take on Pacos Ferreira for a place in the final
