Looking Back at Week 22 in the Portuguese League

Week 22 saw FC Porto's three point lead atop Portugal fall to just one after a 1-1 draw with Academica, a late penalty kick gave the league leaders the draw one week after moving into top spot in Portugal. Benfica got back to their winning ways defeating Pacos Ferreira 2-1 and Braga stretched their league winning streak to nine games as both clubs are now one point behind Porto.

Sporting and Maritimo's tussle for fourth spot continued with both clubs coming away this weekend with a victory, Maritimo 2-1 over Leiria, while Sporting crushed Guimaraes 5-0.

In the weekends most entertaining game, Olhanense and Nacional played to a high scoring 4-4 draw. Rio Ave moved into ninth spot with their 3-0 victory over Setubal and Beira Mar defeated Gil Vicente 1-0.
